The touchscreen on my 1120 just stopped working today as I was working on it. The screen is viewable but no touch functionality. The Touch Panel configuration and calibration utilities won't open at all. I tried redownloading the touch panel utilities from fujitsupc.com, but when I try to open the setup utility (ftsetup.exe), I get "The functionality required by this software is not supported on your system." If anybody can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds that you may have some software corruption. So, before you check the hardware, you should dig into windows device manager and see if there are any devices with a red cross.
Try to restore windows to a previous state before the event. Run a virus/malware scan. Undo any Windows updates or newly installed software that may have damaged the touch screen driver.

My 1120 did the same thing in June. Luckily it was still in warranty and Fujitsu replaced both the LCD screen and the touch panel control board. I don't think it's a software issue as I went thorugh all the steps to restore the software with no luck. |

Heh.... my TS went dead i june. A month ago my backlight went dead. I sent it to fujitsu, and they said that the connectors were dirty. They just cleaned it, at it worked again (no charge). But sounds a bit weird.... I use it at home, and in school.... not at a construction site.... maybe you are having the same prob.

I've bought 2 P1000's for my employees; a P1010 & a P1120. both ahve been back to Fujitsu no less than 3 times each (I think 5 times on one) for this very problem. Fujitsu has put out a service memo to the repair shops about the bad connector. It is very frustrating and not the users fault either. |

Well depends on, what you mean by fixed. I sent the unit in for service, and they fixed it for me (even forgor a hair inside the touchscreen film and screen *grrr). But I guess you could take it appart and clean it yourself. Should be 2 connecters from screen to mobo. 1 for screen and 1 for usb touchscreen... I would think.

Please post here, my P1120 is also just a screen and I've taken it apart to see what's up. Reseated the connectors and all that and still nothing. Gonna try a re-install of the OS next since it's about time for that..

p1120... did the connectors look, oxidated (or whatever is't called in english :). I believe that's what was wrong with mine. I'm not sure what they did, but recon they just 'cleaned' them, so that connectors had contact with the plug. Well, that's what the return slip said anyway.

The connectors didn't seem tarnished or oxidized but I really couldn't tell, I did move/wiggle them around to see if that would help but it didn't.
Of course I also now have one screw left over after putting it back together..

The touchscreen is notorious for failing on the P1120. Most of the time, the flat cable from the digitizer (touchscreen)wiggles out of the connector behind the LCD. Fujitsu released a service bulletin to its ASP's about this. make sure the flat cable is all the way in on the small circuit board behind the LCD, and tape it down. Make sure you leave a little slack so it doesnt pull out again. If this doesnt fix it, the digitizer probably needs to be replaced. Dont let anyone tell you that the LCD is bad, becuase it has NOTHING to do with the touchscreen. JNUSA...what did they charge you to fix your lifebook? |

same exact problem with my 1120. I called Fujitsu and they want $250-$750 to repair my touch screen. They made no mention of any known problems. Has anyone been able to remedy this problem a=on there own? |

can anyone please describe how to fix the bad connector problem. I have removed the front panel that holds the keyboard down and unplugged and plugged the LCD connector and still no touch screen. If anyone could provide a detailed description of this process, or any other fix, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Has anyone that has had this problem had any issues with the colors of the screen being "inverted"? I have one that the colors look like a negative and my touchscreen does not work properly. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. |

Wow this problem really sucks if you happen to be byond your warranty window. miles0823, I don't mean to follow you around the board, but it occurred to me that if you can hook up to an external monitor, you could determine without question if you have a hardware problem. If your colors turn out all right on an external - then only a screen repair will do. It's not much consolation, but it's something...
PS: People SHOULD re-post here to offer the path they finally chose regarding their dilemma. (I'll bet it involves spending money, unfortunately.) |

Sent my 1120 to Fujitsu and their tech called telling me that the LCD needed to be replaced and it would cost $795. I knew for a fact my LCD was fine when I sent it in. They insisted that the LCD was bad until I persisted and asked to talk to their lead tech. He looked at it and found (supposedly) that one of the rubber pads from the front panel had fallen off and was holding down the suspend key and that was not allowing the LCD to come on. In the end they are replacing the touch panel for $225. I can't help but think that they were trying to stick me with a new LCD. Beware. |

yea they definitely were trying to rip you off we do it all the time. Most people dont know that the digitizer (touch screen) is a $33 part and is not part of the LCD so thats how they get away with charging people $750 to replace the entire LCD assembly. quite a profit dont ya think? |

you either need a new status LCD/TS cable or new touchscreen. you just take off the hinge cover and reseat the white connector. try that first. if not then your cable is bad.

hello, i did as I said, I took the hinge cover and reset the white connector - no difference.
Is there any other connector on a back of LCD screen? If yes, could you advice hod and what screws or part to take to reset that other one?
Also sometimes (I think together when I lost the touch screen)the screen mouse symbol jumps all over the places opening and shutting many windows, and this happens only when using keyboard mouse point, never when using external mouse. Any clues or advice you could help, please? Kind regards John

I lost the touchscreen on my p1120 for a while and found that a incorrectly configured usb device I had plugged in that caused it. I recall when I was setting up the touchscreen for Windows 2000 professional on the p1120 (needed to downgrade from xp 'cause it was too slow) that the touchscreen driver said it was a usb device. Could it be that you lost your device driver to the touch screen for windows/linux? Did you try reinstalling the device driver? |

Hey guys, I just bought a used p1120 and the touch screen didnt work. I tried the setup, but the error message was something like this device is incompatible....
anyway i searched the net for answers and came across this forum. so i tried reseating the white connector behind the hinge cover. while doing so, i didnt know that you had to take off one screw on the bottom and cracked the cover. reseating the connector didnt work.
So i did what anpbabaki said to do. I removed the two rubber pieces on top...removed the two screws and removed the stylus pen holder. pryed open the top of the lcd cover and looked in. behind the lcd was a small rectangle chip. it had two connectors. one on the right and one on the left....i noticed that the one on the left wasnt quite in all the way so i stuck my finger in and got it in. then the one on the right popped out. that one was hard to get in. once i got both in, removed the tape that was holding the chip in place and moved it lower so there is more slack. then i taped the connectors so it wont come out. booted up the system. tried setup again. and voila!!! it worked.,,then i put everything back together.
Hope that helps.
now, anyone know where i can get a replacement hinge cover?
Thanks! -Kevin |

I bought a used P1120 that had a broken touchscreen, but I was able to fix it after reading this thread. I had the same (loose cable) problem. I was getting “The functionality required by this software is not supported on your system." error before trying this.
I will explain more about how to check this, since the details here were sketchy at best.
The screws that need to be loosened are on each 4 corners facing the LCD screen, each are covered with little rubber pieces. Someone referred to a hidden/unknown screw that they missed and cracked the plastic screen cover as a result. That screw is located right under the e-mail button. I only loosened it enough to aid in pulling the cover apart enough to see what I was doing. The stylus holder needs to be removed after unscrewing everything. It pretty much comes right out. I stuck a screwdriver into the stylus and used my hands to pull open each side, then removed the stylus. There are also little plastic clips along the sides (2 on each side I think) you have to be careful pulling the cover apart not to break them. Once you have done all this you should be able to bend the top of case (where the stylus holder was) a few inches apart, just enough to see inside. No one was really clear on which flat wires to check. I saw 2 different flat wire pairs; one had a black sheaf and was located in the middle (facing the LCD screen). The other wire pair is to the right of that and much smaller (I didn’t mess with that one) the black wire pair didn’t look loose to me, but I unhooked it anyways and pulled the tape away enough to pull up some slack and re-taped it. I then booted up my computer and noticed that a new decide was detected, a Fujitsu Touch Panel (USB). Installing the drivers after this was not a problem.
It’s a shame Fujitsu would rather rip people off than explain this problem on there website. I tried there help chat 4 times and was virtually ignored when I enquired about the touchscreen. |
